All of God’s living creations require water to survive. This physical dependence on water is often used as a symbol for our spiritual dependence on Christ, whose teachings are a “well of living water” (Guide to the Scriptures).
Many areas of the world are experiencing severe drought conditions this year, and the American West is being exceptionally hard hit. As water users, we all have a part to play to reduce water usage and help our neighbors during this difficult time.
Our invitation for June is to care for your community by conserving water. We provide some resources and ideas in hopes of sparking inspiration, but it’s up to you what small, simple stewardship step you take this month:
- Find out where your household water comes from. Do your own web search or, if you’re in the U.S., you can use this online tool developed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
- Pick one (or more!) ways to reduce water use around your home (e.g. take shorter showers, consolidate laundry, look for and fix leaks; more ideas here).
- Research how drought is affecting your region of the globe and share this information with your family, friends, and ward members to encourage water conservation in your community.
We hope these invitations help you cultivate a more Creation-friendly lifestyle, line upon line and precept upon precept.
